✍🏼Opinion👩🏻‍💻

"THAT" Girl who is she? Is this trend Motivating or Toxic?

You've probably seen her on social media. The TikTik trend of a girl that has everything figured out and lives a perfect and ideal life. For 5 months every girl on TikTok wanted to be " That" Girl. Now that this trend is over, it's time to take a deep dive into it. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Who is "That" Girl?

"That" Girl is a Tik Tok trend that started around May of 2021 and ended around September. The trend is all about personal wellness and self-improvement but, there is some controversy about the "That" Girl lifestyle. Many people have shared their opinion and even tried to become her.

What does "That" Girl do?

"That" Girl has a consistent morning and night routine. She exercises daily, journals, reads, eats healthy, is super productive, and has a skincare routine.

Her morning consists of waking up early, skincare, working out, planning her day, and eating a healthy breakfast of a smoothie bowl or avocado toast.

While her night routine includes reading a self-help book, going on a walk, planning for the next day, and going to bed early.

Why "That" Girl can be toxic

No-ones life is as perfect as it seems on social media. With the magic of editing, you can do wonders. No matter how many pictures you post with the #irl or #nofilter your life is not perfect. The same logic goes for "That" Girl. Not everyone has the same opportunities as "That" Girl. Some people just can't wake up at 5:00 am and work out. You may have a different life you want to live or have something stopping you from doing this like, a long shift at work that lasts until midnight.

"That" Girl can be extremely motivating

If you need some motivation to get out of bed and live your best life "That" Girl can be extremely motivating. She inspires you to eat healthier or to work out more. You could love how much she values her mental health and try to improve yours.

My Opinion

I think "That" Girl can be motivationing or toxic. You could see her as yet another beauty standard for women that is impossible to achieve. You could also perceive her as a girl that cares about her mental health and want to improve your own mental health. She can be motivating to get you out of bed in the morning but, if you see her as someone you HAVE to be to live a healthy and active life, "That" Girl is toxic.

One thing I think is clear is that "That" Girl is a Gen Z version of the 2010's trend of #girlboss. I'm not here to say that either of these trends is bad. They are both about self-improvement and becoming your best self. I'm right in the middle of Gen Z and Generation Alpha so I can't speak for any of the generations. With a few changes here and there like instead of being a coffee addict she drinks matcha and a name change you have gotten from girl boss to "That" girl.

I see her as someone I want to be. Not in a bad way but a good one. I want to journal more and work on enjoying ht little things in life.

To be honest, I am "That" Girl. At first, I was afraid to write this down because I just spent 2-3 hours writing this just to say I am her. I have many of her habits, working out, journaling, waking up early, and more. These lifestyles exist and it is all up to you whether you want to live her or not. I'm not here to tell you that "That" Girl is someone we should all be. I am here to give facts about the trend and my personal opinion.

Conclusion

Depending on how you see her "That" Girl can be motivating or toxic. It's all about what you take away from the trend whether it's how "That" Girl wakes up early or how she journals daily. All opinions on her are valid. Feel free to share your own in a comment.

Bye!
